It is our previlige to introduce to you, Mr. Nalin Mehta, the Managing Director of Mahindra Trucks and Buses Limited, the CEO of Mahindra Truck & Bus Division and going forward, will also be heading Mahindra Construction Division from April 2017.
Nalin has been associated with the Commercial Vehicles business of Mahindra since April 2010, when he joined Mahindra Navistar Automotive Limited as the Chief Operating Officer and has steered the journey of this challenger brand through the most difficult seven year period, which witnessed cyclical downtrend in the industry, restructuring of the business after departure of the JV partner and continued ups and downs of Indian CV industry. Currently, the existing LCV business of MTB is at 10% of the market and the new HCV stream of the business is already clocking a nearly 4% of the Indian CV market in this short span of time, taking on the biggies of the Indian CV Industry.
During his continued tenure at MTB, the business has been widely applauded at various forums, for its innovative approach, be it on the front of technology, state-of-the-art products, nimbleness in addressing changing market needs, ability to rapidly ramp up the after sales service and spares network. The recent exercise of successfully introducing re-engineered new truck series has been one of the finest multi-faceted endeavors in the Indian CV industry, involving developing a new truck featuring award winning patented FUELSMART technology, a unique 360 degree marketing campaign featuring a celebrity and offering unprecedented customer value proposition in the form of guarantees.
Nalin is also credited with introduction of many firsts in the area of customer connect in truck industry like instituting the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards in partnership with Union Ministry, special programs for transport industry in partnership with IIM Ahmadabad and the unique CSR initiatives for Truck Drivers and their daughters, Saarthi Abhiyaan, which have endeared the brand to the entire road transport ecosystem, way beyond what the market shares reflect!
No wonder, amongst many awards and accolades that the business has been acknowledged with, the most coveted, Commercial Vehicle MAN OF THE YEAR, was bestowed upon Nalin on the 9th of Feb 2017 by the eminent jury of Apollo-CV Awards, the most prestigious recognition forum of Indian CV Industry. In addition, the business was also recognized with top awards like Commercial Vehicle of the Year, Heavy Commercial Vehicle of the Year at the same Awards.
Prior to the truck and bus stint, Nalin has been associated with Mahindra in other eminent roles since the year 2000 beginning with the position of General Manager – Marketing – UVs, M&M (2000 – 2006) looking after brands like Bolero, Scorpio, Pickups. He then moved as the Vice-President, Sales & After Sales, Mahindra Renault (P) Ltd (2006 – 2008) from where he rose to head the organization as the CEO, Mahindra Renault (P) Ltd (2008 – 2010).
Nalin has been in Automotive sector for over last 25 years. He launched Mitsubishi Lancer for Hindustan Motors, a launch which was noticed and hailed for many innovative firsts in the Indian automotive market.
Born in 1958, Nalin went on to complete his Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and followed that up with an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. He is married and blessed with two daughters.
In the past he has held industry positions like Member – Executive Committee, SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), Member – Governing Council, ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)
He is currently, an avid golfer. Other interests include reading and travelling.
As regards Nalin’s social work he is actively engaged in amassing funds for Nanhi Kali. Also in his professional capacity has been a key advocate of CSR activities. He has created and institutionalized many a Driver welfare activities. Closest to his heart is a scholarship for education of daughters of drivers. Nearly Rs. 3.4 Crores has been disbursed in the last three years and the program is going from strength to strength.
